Squarespace Sitemap Generator
Our Squarespace Sitemap Generator crawls your live website to extract all indexable pages, products, and blog posts. It serves as an essential auditing tool because Squarespace does not allow you to manually edit your native sitemap file.

How Squarespace Handles Sitemaps
Squarespace automatically generates and updates an XML sitemap for every site on its platform. This native sitemap is always located at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
This file is completely locked down. You cannot manually edit it, upload a replacement, or alter its structure. It automatically includes all pages unless you explicitly disable them in the page settings, and it can only list up to 10,000 URLs natively.
What BuildSitemap Checks
Because you cannot edit the Squarespace sitemap, BuildSitemap is used primarily for technical SEO verification.
We crawl your live Squarespace site by following internal links. This allows us to verify exactly which pages are accessible to Google. We check that your URL slugs match what you expect, ensuring that hidden "Not Linked" pages aren't accidentally exposing sensitive information.
URLs We Discover
- Main Navigation Pages (/about, /services)
- Not Linked Pages (if they are internally linked elsewhere)
- Squarespace Blog Posts (/blog/post-title)
- Squarespace Commerce Products (/store/p/product-name)
URLs to Exclude
- Pages explicitly marked 'Hide Page from Search Results' in Squarespace SEO settings
- Password-protected pages
- The built-in Squarespace search results page
- Old Squarespace version 7.0 index page sub-sections if they shouldn't be indexed individually
Squarespace Sitemap Structure
Squarespace generates a single, flat sitemap.xml file (it does not use a sitemap index). For ecommerce stores or large blogs, this makes indexation tracking difficult.
By using our generator, you can select the Structured Sitemap option to isolate your /store/ or /blog/ paths. You can't upload this to Squarespace, but you can submit this external URL to Google Search Console to monitor specific sections of your site.
Common Squarespace Problems
Squarespace limits its native sitemap to 10,000 URLs. If your blog or store is massive, older content will drop out of the native sitemap.
Moving pages to the 'Not Linked' section in the Squarespace backend does NOT remove them from the sitemap. You must use the SEO toggle to hide them.
Squarespace version 7.0 Index Pages sometimes generate duplicate URLs for their sub-sections.
How to Use Your Generated Sitemap
Since Squarespace prevents you from replacing the native /sitemap.xml, you should use the XML generated by BuildSitemap in two ways:
- Audit Tool: Compare our generated output against your live
sitemap.xml. If our crawler finds pages you didn't know existed, go into Squarespace and delete them or toggle 'Hide Page from Search Results'. - External Submission: If you exceed Squarespace's 10,000 URL limit, host our generated sitemap externally (e.g., on Amazon S3 or a free hosting provider) and submit that external URL directly to Google Search Console.
